Frequently asked questions

Whilst we can’t speak for existing programs the main aspect that we are able to provide is that we specifically work with researchers who are working in very complex social settings.  This requires an understanding of various additional elements for example government processes or advocacy strategies and it is the merging of all this expertise that we bring to our training and consulting work.

We would argue yes, we are not a communications agency or communications specialists.  Our expertise is in research and development, policy development, project and initiative development and advocacy.  We are also researchers, therefore we specifically understand the needs and contexts of all sectors and know how to operate at this interface in practice and for the purpose not of communication, but for working towards influence and impact.

From our experience we can safely say that most existing mechanisms for knowledge sharing are based on passive knowledge transfer, we focus on active knowledge exchange – right knowledge at the right time to the right people that actually addresses the knowledge needs and gaps both identified and potential and as a basis of efficiency and effectiveness as well as creativity and innovation.  No talk fests.

Also there is a lot of time wasted when it comes to research impact strategies and activities, our focus is about doing the right types of activities which have a clear focus and stated objectives.

Yes, this is not only more effective, efficient and strategic but has a greater chance of impact and presents your organisation as one that is driven by ensuring their research is used (but also that there is space and room for blue sky thinking).  Research Impact is not about communicating or presenting impact stories, it’s about collaboration, innovation, creativity, engagement and impact.

Where you start depends on what your team, college, centre, organisation research looks like, we run through a process of identifying, mapping and analyzing your organisation’s past, current and potential research and from this point co-design strategies and activities which address your objectives and goals within the contexts and resources that you are working in.

It depends, but what we have found is that organisations when trying to complete this work themselves take roughly four-six times longer than we would when asked to complete a contracted piece of work for a client. This is due to the client not being familiar with the processes, tools and concepts needed to undertake such work and not having a clear process mapped out.
